Modern design meets half-timbered monument
The second joint project of the Viehoff Group from Münster and WSB Design has been on display since mid-October in Koblenz on the ‘Deutsches Eck’. The old shop Wagner Augenoptik, formerly located in Schloßstraße, has moved to the old inner city of Koblenz (DE).
Wagner Augenoptik has always been known beyond the borders of Koblenz for a high-quality range of frames, specializing in international fashion brands. This orientation is also reflected in the interior of the modern and special store, which has been realized in a monumental half-timbered house. As with the new Optik Amberg in Erlangen, WSB has harmonized the charm of a listed building with a modern custom shop interior.
Where an established fashion store used to be located, customers can now find everything a modern optical store has to offer on a total of 300 m².
As is often the case with listed buildings, the particular challenge for our Design team was to focus on the history of the building while meeting the demand for state-of-the-art shop fittings. The beautiful half-timbered house, whose facade extends over two long sides of the building, first had to be gutted and renovated. The renovation work, which was not easy in times of material shortages and a shortage of professionals, was in any case worthwhile. This is not only apparent from the impressive facade of the building, the entire shop window system was renewed and now forms a harmonious combination with the half-timbered constructions that are visible on the upper floor in noble anthracite.
Acoustic ceiling design
Upon entering the store, a special highlight immediately catches the eye: the green ceiling. The middle part of the store, where the four sales tables are located, is also covered with a green plant cover and therefore one at the same time. The buttresses, which are part of the historic building, are impressively integrated in style. In addition to the optics, this form of ceiling design also has enormously positive effects on the acoustics of the store, which were well thought out in advance during the planning. The separate presentation areas have been set up around this central zone, so that customers can admire the many fashionable frames and sunglasses during a “tour” through the store. The fascinating thing about the chosen room layout is that you can easily stroll through the meeting room without disturbing the people who are in consultation.
With the new shop, the WSBDesign shop fitters, together with the experts from the Viehoff Group, have created another Opti that perfectly combines the demand for the highest quality and outstanding design. This is also reflected in the result: since the reopening, we have not only received many positive reactions from regular customers, but also many new customers.

Firework of impressions
Another eye-catcher is the large yellow gold bar, which invites you to linger and drink coffee with its bar stools. In addition, extra seating has been created in a shop window with a view to the outside, so that you can see the pedestrian zone while waiting for your appointment. There is also a cozy waiting area in the look of a living room with two armchairs and footstools.
The possibility for a standing consultation in the sunglasses department completes the offer for customers. The Wagner optician team is happy every day that there is finally enough space for consultations in a relaxed atmosphere and that the measurement area is now barrier-free (unlike the old shop) on one level.
A firework of impressions awaits the viewer throughout the store. The carefully selected mix of materials and colors ensures that customers always discover new details.
